Forty-five years after the death of Eva Perón, her figure is caught between memory, history, and sentiment. Each one of us looks at her from a different angle, and, from our own personal viewpoint, constructs an image of this woman who has transcended the historical time in which she lived and has given form to the dreams of her people. Evita lives in us from a place of love or a place of hate. Whether idolized or scorned, she is the incarnation of an enigma of our history: our existence as Argentines is defined more by what we are not than by what we are.
Each Argentine constructs a personal Eva, and, among so many Eva's, we are left with none.
Evita: loved and hated.
Evita: saint or evil.
Evita: the unknown.
It is time to rescue the woman buried beneath the myth and to contribute to the historical knowledge of the figure of Eva Perón from a scientific perspective. The seed for the Evita Perón Historical Research Foundation was planted in 1995 when her sisters gathered together a group of professionals from diverse areas of Argentine culture.
